Our Origin
In 1999, using a borrowed laptop, Porter Stansberry created his first financial newsletter — Pirate Investor— right from the kitchen table of a cheap, third-floor walkup apartment in one of Baltimore's most notoriously violent neighborhoods.
From those humble beginnings, over the following 20 years, Porter turned Pirate Investor into Stansberry Research, which expanded beyond that, ultimately becoming MarketWise (Nasdaq: MKTW), employing several hundred people and offering more than 100 different research projects.
Along with the growth came meetings, quotas, quality control — and so much admin work that Porter couldn't focus on what mattered most: his readers. So, he "retired" to his rural farm in Maryland — and started Porter & Co. right from his tractor barn.
Our Difference
In the world as it is evolving today, virtually every other form of media has some kind of obvious bias that greatly distorts the facts they report. But what investors must have is objectivity — they must know the numbers and what they mean, regardless of whether that threatens a politically powerful corporation or a philosophically popular theme.
We operate independently from Wall Street, the mainstream financial media, and even other "newsletter publishers." We built our business around one key goal: to give our subscribers the information we'd most want if our roles were reversed.
To do this requires a dedication to publishing the facts we uncover without fear or favoritism. This is the role of the free press in our society — but it's an obligation virtually every other publisher seems to have forgotten.

Our business is very simple to understand. We strive to uncover and understand the biggest changes occurring in the financial markets, in the world's major economies, and in the world's leading business sectors.
Then, unlike a hedge fund or a family office, rather than trading on these insights ourselves, we do our best to make sure our subscribers are able to capitalize on them.
To inform our subscribers, we publish exhaustive reports detailing every aspect of a major investing theme or trend, and highlight the handful of companies that may benefit. We sell these reports for $199 — no subscriptions, no renewals, no hidden fees.
For individuals looking for actionable investment ideas, we also publish a full suite of advisories, ranging from less than $50 per month to several thousand dollars per year. We don't earn commissions from the investments we recommend — and we don't sell out to advertisers.
